Project Theme: Watershed Collaboration, Planning & Governance and Land & Water-based Learning, Knowledge Sharing

K’en T’em Limited Parntership (KTLP), in partnership with the Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly (CNA), is leading this project to begin developing a Watershed Management Plan grounded in community priorities and Indigenous knowledge. The primary activity in this phase of work will be developing and distributing a territory-wide survey to gather community-driven information and establish the structure that will guide the more technical components of watershed planning in future years. This survey will invite members from all eight Bands to identify geographic areas of concern, watershed issues they have observed, changes in aquatic or riparian conditions, and management priorities they believe should be addressed. This engagement approach also begins to create future pathways for youth and workers to be involved in stewardship through land and water-based learning, monitoring, and cultural knowledge.
Future activities will include establishing watershed working groups to help interpret findings and discuss shared priorities across the territory for the future nłeʔképmx Watershed Management Plan. By beginning with comprehensive community engagement and a structured planning approach, this project ensures that future watershed management efforts will be grounded in nłeʔképmx values, community experience, and Indigenous-led governance.
“This project is about making sure community voices are leading how we care for qʷúʔ (water). By starting with the knowledge and priorities of our Participating Bands, we’re building a foundation for watershed work that reflects what matters for the tmíxʷ (land and all it encompasses)”
