Project Theme: Watershed & Ecosystems Restoration and Nature-based Infrastructure

Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB) is leading this project to increase the salmonid productive capacity of the Sinmax Creek watershed by using a nature-based watershed restoration approach. ALIB recognizes that nature-based watershed restoration requires a collaborative and integrated approach for this Indigenous-led project to be successful.
The key project objectives are to implement restoration activities, following a nature-based approach, to improve water stewardship and conservation of salmon habitat; to support capacity building of ALIB and direct engagement with Secwe̓pemc communities in water and salmon stewardship; and collaboration towards the water and salmon stewardship alongside multiple partners (landowners, provincial, federal, tribal councils) vested in the recovery of salmon species and their habitat. Key activities will include forming a committee composed of of ALIB, Secwepemc Fisheries Commission, BC Cattleman Association, and provincial and federal governments to discuss watershed issues and inform water and salmon stewardship activities; proceeding with the implementation of nature-based instream and riparian habitat restoration activities on willing landowners properties; identifying and implementing further nature-based restoration projects; and training ALIB Land Guardians on nature-based restoration through on the land workshops and direct implementation experience.
